If I could choose my one month holiday plus work independent location, I would choose the Netherlands for several reasons. First, I would choose it because I would be closer to my sweetheart, who currently resides in Belgium. I would be a train or drive away from seeing her and spending precious moments with her. The second reason is that there is an intensive language program to learn how to speak, read and write Dutch. I could choose either the location in Amsterdam, a city I truly adore, or the countryside of Drenthe, where I could probably focus the most in learning due to its serene environment. Because I have been to Amsterdam before, I would choose what is the most familiar to me. Knowing English is the 2nd spoken language in the Netherlands, I would feel comfortable practicing speaking Dutch with the locals and asking them in English when I stumble across the words. There are a plethora of cafes available for me to set up my workstation to blog. The most common mode of transportation is via bicycle. Not only is it eco-friendly, there’s no other way to feel like a local Dutch than to ride a bicycle amongst the locals. While at my independent location, I can finally pursue visiting the Dementia Village in Hogeway. This visit would touch so close to home because Dementia crept into my Father’s last year of life on Earth. The one month’s holiday time spent at my independent location would be one of learning, researching, discovery, work (but the kind of work that would appear more as a passion than that of a rat race type of work) and most of all, that of quality spent with the love of my life.
